We are announcing the formation of Autonomy & Solidarity – a political network of discussion and activism for revolutionary activists. Autonomy & Solidarity is an exploratory network and political space for socialists, anarchists and anti-capitalists who believe that revolutionary transformation will come from exploited and oppressed people self-organizing from below and not from the top down organizing of any state, party or union bureaucracy. Our name comes from our support for the autonomous struggles of workers and the oppressed, and from our belief in building forms of solidarity that address all forms of oppression and exploitation.
We are active in various anti-poverty, anti-war/occupation, feminist, union, queer liberation and anti-racist movements and coalitions. We also organize discussion groups, public forums and skills workshops, and produce materials and resources to develop and share our politics. Our goal is to develop theory and practice collectively in order to extend our individual capacities and to make better contributions to the movements in which we are active.
We seek to develop the anti-capitalist practices and networks that emerged through our anti-globalization, anti-war and anti-poverty movements. We support direct action and mass struggle, and are committed to decentralized, non-hierarchical forms of organizing. We are also internationalists and want to make connections with progressive and revolutionary movements around the world.
Developing transformative anti-oppression politics is central to our politics. We support the autonomous struggles of women, people of colour, gays and lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals, transgender and intersex people, young people, people living with disabilities, and indigenous people inside the Canadian State and around the world. We also seek a politics of responsibility for white people to challenge white supremacy, for men to challenge masculine privilege and patriarchy, and for those identifying as heterosexual to challenge relations of heterosexual privilege.
Autonomy & Solidarity seeks to initiate a wide-ranging process of political debate and elaboration. We are supporters of revolutionary pluralism, a political and organizational practice that views non-sectarian debates and discussions amongst revolutionaries from various backgrounds as healthy and generative. Autonomy & Solidarity provides us with a political network through which to explore the questions and debates that have been raised within the new anti-capitalist movements.
Autonomy & Solidarity is comprised of collectives and activists based in Toronto, Sudbury, Hamilton, Guelph, Vancouver and other locations. We look forward to hearing from other radicals who share our political perspectives and who are interested in participating in common projects or in becoming part of our network of collectives. What am I?
I am Scotish, Irish, Russan, German, English and French, being born as the fifth generation in Canada I have no link to any of my family coulture.
Does that make me Canadian? Or does that make me just white?
To begin to break through these masks of race we have to adopt a language that will allow for it and not give in to using easy language that offends or ignores important details. Mass black and white coulture is an imposed idea created and being reinforced by the system.
It's all about power, devide and conquer. As long are we fight amongst ourselves we are not learning how to organise against or around it. We need a system to live together but one that nurishes it's people. It's not the governments job to save money for us, it's there job to make sure the money we give them is used to bennifit the basic wellbeing and quality of life for all the people of Canada.
I feel that Canada oues the Native peoples of this country a great dept!
We can speek about equality to other nations but here in our own yards we allow such injustices to continue.
The people of Calladonia should stand on the side of their neighbours, together, for it is the same system that plays them both.
I am fifth generation Canadian and I am an imagrant. I have no where else to go, so I stay in Canada but with the knowledge that we are living on the bounty of someone elses land. Give them their land back! I do not want to be a theif by heritage.
Canada is shamed unitll it does.
good job!
Hey, fantastic job covering the Caledonia situation! I hope it's ok that I re-posted some of your pix on my blog. Check out Brainslide.
Keep fighting the good fight!
Drupal administration
I'm trying to reach the site administrator regarding general Drupal issues. I'm creating a site for a large labor union, and would love to have someone to talk to about the basic issues with the CMS. Sorry to interrupt, but when confronted with my own ignorance, I seek a wiser hands. My email address is in my user profile.
Or, please advise where admins can be reached by other means.

Difficulty of the Site
Mollymew:
I have to say that it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to post to your site. Idon't know if THIS will go through or How I would EVER find that it did. After HAVING to "sign in" via EACH AND EVERY move INSIDE your site and often getting nowher, I really think that you simplify navigation on your site so that it makes minimal sense. ONCE MORE, I have NO IDEA of whethet this will get through or even how I would check if it did.
Difficulty of the site
Patrick,
You may be having problems with the site because your browser is set up to not allow cookies. You have to allow cookies from this site, in order for it to work properly. There have also been some problems using Internet Explorer with the site. If your problems persist, maybe try another browser.
Anyways, thanks for the comment, and if anyone else out there is having problems, please let us know, and we'll try and fix them.
Tom.
How does this site work?
I cannot see any comments on the articles. Are there any? If I comment on something does it show up anywhere? If not, then there was no reason for me to register. I'm using an old Netscape so perhaps I'm not seeing everything.
???
The site works like this!
Hey Biff,
The site is working, you're just the first person to have made a comment on this article. Those people who register by requesting an account are able to post comments and engage in forums and discussions that we have. There have not been that many comments posted so far, maybe about a half dozen, but keep in mind this is also a very new site in its infancy. So feel free to kick off some discussion and make your opinion known...
Tom.
Thanks Tom,
Yea I realized it was working when I saw my comment up. I tried to post a "nevermind" comment but was informed that I had exceeded my comment limit (which I assume is one post a day?).
Feel free to delete my comments here - as they do not pertain to the article.
I'd like to submit an event to the contributors for them to post
